D\u2019un c\u00f4t\u00e9, nous avons les monospaces Active et Gran Tourer, de l\u2019autre les Coup\u00e9 et Cabrio. Ces derniers utilisent une plateforme \u00e0 roues arri\u00e8re motrices, tandis que les S\u00e9rie 2 \u00e0 vocation plus familiale sont des tractions qui reprennent l\u2019architecture\u00a0<em>FAAR<\/em>\u00a0des Mini et S\u00e9rie 1 (sans oublier la Zinoro 60H du constructeur chinois Brilliance, partenaire de BMW \u00e0 travers une synergie). Cette S\u00e9rie 1 existe \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent aussi dans cette version berline, ce qui lui vaut, en recevant la d\u00e9nomination Gran Coup\u00e9, d\u2019int\u00e9grer la S\u00e9rie 2. \u00c7a va, vous suivez? La d\u00e9signation Gran Coup\u00e9 est du reste un peu usurp\u00e9e, puisqu\u2019il ne s\u2019agit bien s\u00fbr pas d\u2019un vrai coup\u00e9, m\u00eame si la voiture conserve des vitres lat\u00e9rales d\u00e9pourvues d\u2019encadrement pour justifier son nom\u2026 Remarquons au passage que ces vitres ne sont justement pas sans engendrer des bruits a\u00e9rodynamiques suppl\u00e9mentaires. Quoi qu\u2019il en soit, chaque S\u00e9rie de BMW dispose d\u00e9sormais de sa variante Gran Coup\u00e9. Pour les 6 et 8, il s\u2019agit de mod\u00e8les \u00e0 4 portes, alors que la 4 Gran Coup\u00e9 est une 5 portes. Dans le cas de la 2 Gran Coup\u00e9 qui nous occupe, une carrosserie 5 portes a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 envisag\u00e9e, mais elle pr\u00e9sentait l\u2019inconv\u00e9nient d\u2019\u00eatre moins rigide, ce qui aurait impos\u00e9 le recours \u00e0 des renforts structurels qui auraient rendu la voiture trop lourde.
